Terram Drainage Composites

Terram Drainage Geocomposites provide a modern and efficient alternative to traditional granular drainage layers. They combine geotextile filters with a high-flow drainage core to create a lightweight and easy-to-install drainage solution. For more than 40 years, these drainage composites have delivered reliable performance in building, construction, and civil engineering projects worldwide.

The system combines filtration and drainage within a single product. A geotextile filter layer allows liquids and gases to pass through while preventing soil particles from entering the drainage core. Meanwhile, the internal drainage net collects and channels water and gases towards designated collection points. As a result, the system maintains efficient drainage and helps reduce the risk of clogging.

Different composite configurations are available to suit a range of drainage requirements. Filter/net/filter compositesprovide effective drainage across larger areas and often replace traditional stone drainage systems. In contrast, filter/net/membrane composites allow drainage from one side while forming a barrier on the other. Consequently, this design creates a cut-off drain that controls the movement of liquids and most gases.

Both systems can be installed either vertically or horizontally, depending on the project design. Because these composites replace thick granular layers, they also reduce excavation, minimise backfill requirements, and speed up installation on site. Overall, Terram drainage composites provide a practical and reliable drainage solution for many infrastructure and construction projects.

Terram 1B1 Drainage Composite

Terram 1B1 is a filter/net/filter drainage composite that allows water to enter from both sides. For this reason, it is ideal for general drainage applications where water may flow from multiple directions.

Typical applications include:

  • Highway edge-of-carriageway drainage
  • Slope and embankment drainage
  • Retaining walls and bridge abutments
  • Landfill drainage systems
  • Tunnels and buried structures

Terram 1BZ Drainage Composite

Terram 1BZ is a filter/net/membrane drainage composite that drains from one side only. The integrated membrane forms a barrier on the opposite side and creates a cut-off drain that controls the direction of water flow.

Typical applications include:

  • Retaining wall drainage with barrier protection
  • Highway drainage where controlled flow is required
  • Tunnel and underground structure protection
  • Landfills and containment systems
  • Basement and buried structure drainage

Product Features

  • Manufactured using TERRAM T100OLE, a unique geotextile filter developed for its high tensile modulus and ability to prevent soil ingress into the void space of the drainage core
  • TERRAM drainage cores are manufactured from HDPE nets
which have been engineered to have good flow under high loading
  • Robust to survive installation and service life
  • Stable under load to resist deformation that could ultimately restrict flow
  • Good chemical resistance

Product Benefits

  • High-volume flow paths for liquids and gases
  • Lightweight and easy to handle, making for easy installation, particularly against vertical faces such as bridge abutment.
  • Cost-effective replacement for primary natural resources, with factory-assured properties to avoid issues regarding stone grading and
    consistency
  • Reduced environmental impact by avoiding the use of natural-occurring minerals
  • Lower haulage costs, lower material costs and lower installation costs
